Christmas 2010

Dear Friends,

You may remember last year we said every year is much the same for us and so, as promised, we are going to tell you only the stuff that is new.  If you don’t remember the “great stuff” we do routinely (and if you care), you can read about that in last year’s newsletter by clicking ➤here.  But things really haven’t changed; we’re quite contented and not planning to change anything - until nature steps in with some suggestions.

So here are our three unusual events for this year:  The most enjoyable was a visit by two of our Chicago friends; their second visit to Ibiza as they continue with their plan to retire here.  We also traded our ten-year-old red Megane cabrio for a new red Megane cabrio.  (We lack imagination in cars.)  Ten years between new cars makes us feel like rational and responsible folks - even though they’re both convertibles.  The third new event is our acquisition of two iPads.  Not exactly earth-shaking news, but they have made it possible for us to spend even more time outdoors, mostly on our upper terrace (from which our world still looks pretty great.)  And now we can nearly run our lives from there - while also using it to read our favorite magazines and newspapers and the occasional book.  My office is no longer my favorite hangout because I can even use my iPad to write my “book.”  Finally, at our age we think we can claim it is news and worth reporting that we both have survived another year, with our health pretty much holding its own and our senses of humor intact.  Maybe it helps that we never were adventurers and so all we’ve had to give up with age was skiing - and we did that apparently out of an unexplained burst of good sense a long time before our advancing arthritis would have required it.  These days a little excitement goes a long way and our “same old things” remain surprisingly rewarding.

We are still trying to keep a record of some of the things that have kept us occupied, interested, entertained and satisfied over the years.   And some of that is (and the rest is about to be) on our website which you can find ➤here.  My book is still growing at www.Gerald-Andrews.com as there is a never-ending supply of things that “need to be written about”  Hope that you’ve had a great year, that your holiday season is everything it is supposed to be - and that you have a

Happy New Year,

This year’s Christmas card, as has become our custom, is by William Fulljames, an established  local artist who works in just about every known medium.  The local scenes on his Christmas cards are from his primitive wood block prints.  This one is a picture of the church in Sant Joan.  The greeting is in Catalan.  To see this year’s card click ➤ here
